She Made the Whole World Feel Like Home by Courtney Walsh |
When did you first begin creating art?
I first started my art journey as a scrapbooker. I've written two scrapbooking idea books, and and I worked for the now defunct Memory Makers Magazine as a contributing editor for 2 1/2 years. While I LOVED scrapbooking, several years ago (2008-ish) I started dabbling in mixed media. It satisfied my love of paper and words with the added challenge of paint. Since then, I continue to dabble and find that making art completely calms my brain in a way I wouldn't trade for the world!

What is your favorite/most sentimental creation you have made? Why?
Before I published my first novel, there was a fairly scary transitional period where my book contract was completely up in the air. I remember a friend said to me, "This is just one of those times you have to kind of "hold on". It's like the house in the movie "Up", you're just kind of floating along, held up by a big bouquet of balloons." I was a much more anxious person back then (not really--I'm still an anxious person) and my mind grabbed right on to that word picture an I created this piece of art. It still speaks to me, through three cross country moves in two years, additional publishing woes as well as the up and down of new jobs...Just Hold On.

Hold On by Courtney Walsh |
Is there a project you've always dreamed of creating? What would it be?
Something on a really large scale. I tend to shy away from anything larger than a scrapbook page. I get a little lost on large canvases. I'd LOVE to create something really big to hang in my bedroom. It would complement my bedding but be totally personal to us. Someday, right?!
