Natty Michelle Paperie { I heart Art }

This week I'm excited to introduce y'all to Natalie. I actually met Natalie at the Indie South Fair back in November 2012. Her booth was next to ours and Angie and I ended up making a new friend.
She uses watercolors to create beautiful paper goods and artwork, but my favorite has to be her maps!

When did you first begin creating art?
From the first moment I was able to pick up a crayon, my passion has always been art. I've always had an imagination, and creating art was a way I could express myself. In elementary school I entered an art contest in the town where I grew up -- and I won! I remember that really made me feel really special. I continued to take art classes in school and at summer camps, and I practiced non-stop on my own free time…and that’s never stopped!

What is your favorite/most sentimental creation you have made? Why?
The most sentimental piece I've made to date is probably the first anniversary gift I gave my husband. Since year number one is supposed to be a paper gift, I thought it should be something I created.  In the first year we were married, my wedding maps had really taken off, so I decided we should have our own map commemorating our wedding day in Athens, Georgia. I worked with Liz of Blush Design Studio to create a one-of-a-kind letterpress map, complete with the spot James proposed, the church where we were married and a tiny portrait of our house.

Is there a project you've always dreamed of creating? What would it be?
I am always dreaming up new ways to expand my small business -- and from what I've learned so far, the sky is truly the limit. Sometimes I have brainstorm sessions where I just jot every idea I have on a piece of paper, no matter how crazy it seems to be at the time. Somehow seeing your ideas on paper makes them seem more tangible -- they’re there, in black and white, so you might as well see what you can do about making them happen, right? I would love to one day see my designs on more products, like journals, memo pads and iPhone cases. I’m actually in the early stages of developing some these right now, and I hope to sell them on my new website later this year.
